Heck ch00 p07

Hector’s look came together out of the demands of working quickly and the desire to have a distinctive hero who was not cut from the same Adonis mold as Flash Gordon or Superman.  With everyone talking about what a big man on campus he was, I wanted to make him a little more rough-hewn and less perfect-looking.  As the model for his face became more refined, it also became more fun to draw: line-dot, line-dot for eyes, hump for bridge over the standard three-bump nose, Y-shapes for cheekbones, and a line in the chin.  Less than a minute to ink, and instantly unmistakable as our main character.
